Fort Collins residents can receive up to $50 in rebates through the 2014 Lawn and Garden Equipment Rebate Program April 5-June 29.

This year’s rebate program has been expanded to include electric or reel lawnmowers, as well as electric or battery-powered leaf blowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, edgers, chain saws, pole saws, cultivators, and tillers that have a retail purchase price of $99 or more. For a complete list of participating retailers or to request a rebate, go to or call 970.221.6600.

The City will also join Bath Power Equipment and Downtown Ace Hardware for a "Clean" Lawn and Garden Equipment Demo Day, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. April 19, to coincide with the Sustainable Living Association’s Earth Day festivities. Residents can test electric and battery-powered lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers and other equipment. The demonstration will be held on the grassy area north of Laporte Avenue and west of 215 N. Mason St.

Residents can help reduce the emissions of air pollutants by replacing their gas-powered lawn and garden equipment with “clean” equipment, recycling their gas mower, or by using a sustainable lawn care service. Traditional, gas-powered lawn and garden equipment produces volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, and hazardous air pollutants that can harm your health and contribute to ground level ozone, which causes lung damage, smog and haze. In one hour, a gas-powered lawn mower can produce the same amount of air pollution as eleven cars.

Rebates will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis to Fort Collins residents. Equipment must be purchased from participating retailers inside city limits.
