Believe it or not, Prince's very first televised interview didn't happen until 1985 right in the middle of filming for his music video for "America," and in honor of the one-year anniversary of his tragic death, we're revisiting some old school footage.

Produced by MTV News, the outlet was given the opportunity to host an interview with the Purple Wonder, but there was one catch. MTV sent over the questions and they were asked by his then-manager, Steve Fargnoli.

"One thing I'd like to say is that I don't live in prison. I'm not afraid of anything. I haven't built any walls around myself. I'm just like anyone else," he said. "I need love, water. I don't really consider myself a superstar. I live in a small town and always will 'cause I can walk around and be me, and that's all I want to be and all I tried to be."

Throughout the chat, the Purple Wonder also spoke about how influential James Brown was during his young years, not wanting to be judged by the color of his skin and even the backstory behind "Purple Rain."
